Walking Dead #100 Gets the HERO INITIATIVE treatment!

According to a post over at ComicBook.com,  there’s something else Walking Dead comic fans can look forward to in 2013.

For the first time in the organization’s history, the HERO INITIATIVE will be offering up their first IMAGE title for a “100 Project” with THE WALKING DEAD #100.

The HERO INITIATIVE helps comic creators in financial distress or in poor health with medical bills or other expenses.

100 unique one-of-a-kind covers will be produced for this project by various comic industry legends, such as Joe Jusko, Dan Brereton, Kevin Eastman and even ones by WALKING DEAD legends and creators Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard.

Robert Kirkman had this to say: “The Walking Dead would have never become the success it’s become without the trailblazers who put in the hard work to make this industry live on into the future.  Doing things like this for The Hero Initiative, which helps creators who have fallen on hard times, is a way for Charlie Adlard and I to give back to the community that has provided us with countless hours of entertainment and also a pretty cushy living. Simply put, it’s the right thing to do.”

Publishers such as Marvel, DC and Archie have previously worked with the HERO INITIATIVE on past 100 Projects.

Each unique cover will be displayed at various conventions and locations around the country starting later this year and will continue until they are auctioned off in 2013 for the organization.

A commemorative book featuring all 100 covers will also be available for purchase as well.

THE WALKING DEAD #100 has been quoted as the best-selling comic book of this decade, with multiple variant covers and at least 3 different printings as of this article.

No word on whether or not artist Tony Moore will be contributing a cover…however, we would certainly love to see that.  Also, don’t be surprised if unsketched copies leak and sell for bank.  Just saying.
